What does Mercury retrograde actually mean?
Mercury retrograde is an apparent change in Mercury’s direction against the background sky as seen from Earth. The planet does not reverse its orbit. In astrology, the period is often interpreted as a time to review plans and check details; that interpretation is separate from the astronomical motion.
Check Mercury’s current status
Is Mercury retrograde right now?
Open the Sky view for the current status and the calculated start and end times in your selected city. The status changes at the station, not automatically at midnight on the calendar date.
What is the retrograde shadow?
The pre-shadow and post-shadow describe passages through the zodiac degrees covered during the retrograde. They are separate from the period when Mercury is actually moving retrograde. A shadow date is not an earlier start or a later end of retrograde motion.
Should I postpone travel or signing a contract?
A retrograde date alone is not a reason to cancel a trip or delay an important commitment. Read the terms, allow sensible travel time and check details as you normally would. Astrology does not establish that technology or communication must fail during these weeks.
Why do calendars show different dates?
A station near midnight can fall on different dates in different time zones. Some calendars also mix the shadow period with the retrograde itself. Compare the event definition and time zone before assuming the calculations disagree.
